GLUTEN & SUGAR-FREE INJERA

A tangy gluten and sugar free leavened pancake, injera is used instead of a plate for serving, and instead of cutlery for grabbing and eating!

Vegetarian Tsebhi Stew

This Abyssinian classic is usually served as a vegetarian or vegan stew, but it is also served in other dishes. Here at Corarima, we offer vegetarian or vegan option.

Coffee Arabica

CORARIMA COFFEE ARABICA

In Abyssinian culture, coffee ceremonies are an integral part of social life and a mark of respect – share our special blend with friends.

OUR FOOD IS

GLUTEN FREE, SUGAR FREE, GUILT FREE

The grain we use for our food is gluten and sugar free

The beauty of Abyssinian cookery is that anyone can enjoy it. We only use low carb grains, our entire menu is gluten free, and the majority of our food is – or can be made as – vegetarian or vegan.

Our injera is made from teff (with a little rice and millet) which, as a ‘superfood’, is packed full of health-boosting benefits. It’s sugar-free, high in calcium, iron, protein, fibre and folic acid, and is widely recognised as being the best alternative to wheat to make gluten free breads.

So at Corarima, you get a gluten free, healthy vegetarian restaurant all rolled into one!

My wife and I had dinner at Coraima this evening whilst staying in Wakefield and what a delightful restaurant it is. The simple and authentically decor provides an instant relaxed atmosphere. We started with drinks. I had a Telba (a cold drink made with ground flax seeds) and my wife had a Beso (a cold, slightly sweet roasted barley drink). Both were delicious. For starters we shared a Beetroot Salad. It was very fresh with a delicately flavoured vinegar type dressing. As neither of us had had Abyssinian cuisine before, we decided to go for the 'Combination dish for two' to give us an overall taster of their menu. A large round slate plate arrived with nine perfectly neat individual dishes sat on an injera (a slightly sour flat bread made from teff flour) with a further six neatly rolled injeras and four small chickpea flat breads. Every dish was very well spiced and made with care. Delightful and moreish. By the time we had eaten the whole plate we were nicely full but it did not feel heavy. We rounded the evening with hot drinks of a Shay (a North African spiced tea) and an Abyssinian coffee. The coffee (and popcorn) is not cheep at £9.95, however, this is by far the best coffee I've ever tasted and a must for any coffee lover. We were informed that they roast the beans with spices in-house. Another sign of their dedication to present an authentic experience delivered with passion. Thoroughly recommended. Some additional information:1. The restaurant is vegetarian and gluten free.2. We had to pay a £20 no-show deposit when making the online table booking the day before, although, this has become, understandably, quite common for independent restaurants.

Exploring the outskirts of Leeds led me to discover the gem that is Corarima, a gluten-free, vegan haven in Wakefield. As someone currently navigating a gluten-free journey, stumbling upon this Abyssinian vegan/gluten free restaurant was a true delight.Opting for the combination platter for two was a journey through a sensory layer cake - a symphony of tastes and smells expertly presented. We embraced the experience, relishing the deliciousness with our hands, a practice met with the owner's delighted approval. The host, a charming and attentive soul, took us on a culinary tour, passionately detailing each dish. He was so warm, Friendly and attentive - without being over-bearing. The decor added to the warmth, creating a homely ambiance that made this dining experience extraordinary. In the realm of UK dining, Corarima has secured its spot among our favorites. It's more than a restaurant; it's a rare and complete experience, a testament to the charm and authenticity of Abyssinian cuisine.I wish we lived closer as we’d visit regularly for sure!

1st time, beautiful restaurant, attentive staff, the food was new to me but it was good, spicy but not hot, had the sharing platter which fools you, thought it wouldn't be enough but it was ample for 2. Great place would recommend. Vegan friendly, I'm not vegan but couldn't fault what I had.

Super experience! Not only the food is amazing, the service is outstanding and the place is just lovely. We really enjoyed our meal. Everything was super tasty and healthy, lots of vegetables and legumes. And of course, lots of their special bread. We even tried some of the cold drinks and they were really good, something like oat milk, but tastier. We will come back very soon, what an amazing place!

Very distinctive! This is my first time eating African food. The boss will personally introduce the food to the guests and greet the guests after the meal to confirm whether they are used to it.The food is delicious and the decor of the restaurant is very stylish. The only drawbacks are that the prices are high and the portions are not large. But it was a pretty interesting experience and I would recommend everyone to try it!

Great experience , service was amazing (sorry forgot the guys name) but you could see he is genuinely interested in providing guests with quality food and also a enjoyable experience from start to end. The explanation of the food and the little chats were appreciated. Also whilst the price of the traditional smoothies may see high , it’s a bottle with enough to go round 2-3 people and it’s really worth it. Anyway definately a place to try

Splendid vegan restaurant - very tasty pulse & vegetable dishes, subtle & interesting spicing - a few things are quite hot. Run by friendly people clearly passionate about their cuisine. Got the feeling most of the other diners were regulars. Having eaten the food, I'm not surprised. Highly recommended.

Absolutely amazing- we welcomed in and the service was excellent, the host was absolutely and happy to discuss and talk about the food and Abyssinian food in general. The food itself was excellent, we had the sharing platter for two, there were a large range of different dishes to try and all were excellent, as was the injera bread. Visited for the first time this week - so impressed. Received a very warm, genuine welcome to the restaurant, which is well presented and spotlessly clean. The menu was explained and questions about the cuisine, which we hadn't tried before, answered. The food itself was delicious and good value.I think it's important to point out that we're all meat eaters but can honestly say that we would 100% recommend this place and can't wait to go back! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Had an early dinner there, and was delighted with the service and the food. All of the menu is vegan and gluten free. For starters I had a delicious tomato salad. For the main I had the potato and spinach salad - this was lighltly spiced and accompanied by cornbread, toff bread and a pulse dip.For a cool drink I had the flax (nicely nutty in flavour). The cost of the meal was £27, a main would easily fill me up if I wasn't too hungry. The restaurant is spotless and really tastefully decorated. The staff are really friendly and helpful.
